Restore strength AND comfort
Dental Fillings
Dental fillings are an effective way to restore teeth damaged by decay and prevent further deterioration. By sealing cavities and reinforcing weakened enamel, fillings help preserve your natural tooth structure and protect against infection or discomfort. With modern materials and gentle techniques, you can maintain both the health and appearance of your smile.
Stopping decay before it spreads
Why Dental Fillings Matter
Tooth decay weakens your teeth and can affect your overall oral health. Cavities create small holes in the enamel that, if left untreated, can progress deeper and cause pain or infection. Dental fillings repair the affected area, restore tooth function, and maintain your natural appearance. Timely treatment helps you avoid:
- Tooth sensitivity or ongoing pain
- Infection or abscess development
- Weakening of tooth structure
- The need for more complex treatments such as crowns or root canal therapy
A simple, comfortable procedure
What to Expect During Your Filling
Getting a dental filling is a straightforward process designed to restore your tooth’s health and function with minimal discomfort. At our North York dental clinic, we use gentle techniques and advanced materials to ensure the best results.
Local Anesthetic
A local anesthetic is used to numb the treatment area to prevent discomfort. For shallow cavities, this step may not be necessary.
Decay Removal and Preparation
The decayed portion of the tooth is gently removed using precise instruments. The area is then cleaned and prepared for the filling.
Filling Placement
The selected filling material is applied in layers and shaped to match your tooth’s natural form.
Finishing and Polishing
The filling is hardened, smoothed, and polished for a natural look and comfortable bite.

Pain Following a Dental Filling
It is common to feel slight tenderness or sensitivity in the treated area for a few hours after your appointment. If discomfort persists, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever or apply a warm compress or ice pack to your jaw for short periods.
Local anesthesia typically wears off within two to seven hours. During this time, you may feel mild discomfort as sensation returns. To help your filling set properly and avoid irritation, try to avoid acidic, sticky, or very cold foods for the next day or two.
